Turkey Hiatus over; Kings Hold Court, Weekend Rewind

My apologies for the lack of updates over the weekend. A city wide power outage Saturday night and thanksgiving weekend travel got in the way.

The Kings started off the weekend by disposing the Quesnel Millionaires, 7-3. For an recap of that contest click here. What stood out for myself in that contest was three things.

1. The power-play rebounded with a 3 for 5 effort, including Jon Jutzi first BCHL goal.
2. Andrew Pettitt has a hot stick; regigstered a hat-trick; four goals in 4 games.
3.Sean Maguire recorded his first BCHL win, looking very sharp in stopping 24 of 26 shots.

Play of the Game: Andrew Pettitt's third goal, short handed from Cohen Adair. "Dair Devil" blew by his man on right wing, slowed down in the circle and fed a beautiful pass out in front to Pettitt.

One night later, another convincing victory for the Kings.

The Kings skated to a 4-1 victory over Cowichan Valley on a stormy and ugly Saturday night. The boxscore can be found here.

The Capitals were short handed due to suspensions and injuries stemming from last Wednesday's win over Prince George. The Cap's only dressed 11 forwards and 5 defenseman. A couple observations from that contest.

1. Even though the Kings won, it wasn't their best effort on the ice. Can you blame them entirely? No. You can say whatever you want, it's hard not to play down to your opponet on a night like Saturday.  Not pretty to watch, but hey, two points is two points.
2.Lots of talk was the dangerous duo of Mike Hammond and Jordan Grant. Don't get me wrong, two great talents, however, they, for the most part, were kept in check, Yes, Mike Hammond scored a power-play goal, however he was pretty quiet for the rest of the night. As for Jordan Grant, well, it's better left unsaid.

Both victories improve the Kings to 8-3-1-0 good for 2nd place, three points back of Langley. Their home record now jumps to 6-2-0-0 tied for the Bulldogs for first in the league.

Kings of the Week.

1. Chad Nidderry: The 20 year-old from Penticton is playing at a level you rarely see in this league. Niddery in two games last week recorded 6 points, all assists in wins over Quesnel and Cowichan. How can you not like how he plays? Smart with the puck, fast, and with an edge.

2. Andrew Pettitt. The Whitehorse product is starting to heat up. In his last  4 games he has regigstered, 4 goals and 1 assist. Here's to seeing more of his name on the scoresheet.

3. Cohen Adair. Dair Devil is riding a 3 game point streak, including 2 goals and 2 assists on the weekend. He is now using his size and speed to his advantage.

Can you find something in common with the three stars?

Yes, all three players make up the second line for the Kings. I expect to see more of their names this weekend.
