DaSilva commits to Ohio State

Chad Niddery might have found a roommate for next season in Columbus. 20 year-old Justin DaSilva has declared his intent to play for the Buckeyes next fall.

DaSilva recently returned from a campus tour which included an informal meeting with Philadelphia Flyer rear-guard Chris Pronger. His Flyers were in Columbus on Monday for a game against the Blue Jackets. Pronger just happens to be one of DaSilva's idol's.

First and foremost, congratulations to Justin and his family. DaSilva is going to a top notch program in a great conference in the NCAA. Ohio State plays in the CCHA, with conference rivals such as Michigan and Michigan State.

The 20 year-old from Cambridge, Ontario, is in his second and final season with the green and gold. Through 68 career BCHL games DaSilva has collected 12 goals and 37 assists for 59 points. The hulking defenseman has developed into one the premier blue-liners in the BCHL. More importantly, DaSilva is starting to use his 6'5, 215 pound frame to punish opposing forwards. The Buckeyes are getting, to steal a line from Pierre MaGuire, a big body presence.

I expect that we will see more players from this roster  receive NCAA divison 1 scholarships.
