Kings back home, 2 points from Victoria, RELAX day

Off the ferry and back at the office for one final update before I hit the couch and enjoy copious amounts of football.

The Kings ended their road trip on a high note, soundly defeating the Victoria Grizzlies 4-1 at Bear Mountain. As Associate Head Coach, Chad Van Diemen, said in the post-game show, the team got better as the weekend wore on. That is a good sign, as usually with three games in as many nights, teams tend to get more sloppy.

Furthermore, the Kings have now taken all three games from the Grizzlies, only surrendering one point in the process. That's including taking the first two games at Bear Mountain, with only one left to be played there this season. Now if we can have the same effort against Nanaimo, but I digress..

Glenn Gibbs of the Peak Newspaper, just stopped in for a chat, and has an appropriate analogy for Mike Garteig. He calls him the Rodney Dangerfield of the BCHL and he is absolutely right. How does this goaltender continually get snubbed for the three star selection night in and night out, especially in visiting barns?

Garts' did not have to make more saves then Matt Ginn, however the quality of saves he made, especially late going, warrants recognition alone. I know coaches say it doesn't matter in the lockerroom, as the team knows very well who was their best player. However I am lobbying for the league to take notice of when recognition is due.

Have a good Sunday,
