Clippers edge Kings

The Nanaimo Clippers won a back and forth affair versus Powell River 4-3 on Saturday night at the Hap Parker arena.

Kyle Kramer's rebound goal at 16:27 of the third stood up as the game winning goal, giving Nanaimo their first win of the season in their opening night. Kramer fed Mike Domsodi on right wing, who quickly snapped a shot short side on Garteig, who in turn, kicked a rebound out to a waiting Kramer, who then popped it high blocker on the Kings netminder.

The Kings did come close tying the game at four with the net empty,  but Clippers goaltender, Marc-Andre Pelletier stood tall in the final moments, including two goal mouth scrambles.

GAME OVER.

Game recap:

1st period no scoring

The Powell River Kings weathered an early blitz by Nanaimo off the opening, and started to grab momentum late in the period, however were unable to solve Pelletier. To his credit, Mike Garteig was razor sharp in the opening frame, thwarting the Nanaimo attack on several occasions.

2nd period:

The Clippers got on the scoreboard first when Sam Labrecque wired a one-timer from the top of the left circle by Garteig just under five minutes in.

The Kings responded with a nice goal by Matt Garbowsky; who took a rebound short blocker side, and fired upstairs on Pelletier at 8:18.

1-1

Nanaimo came back with Leo Fitzgerald's first BCHL goal when he zipped a snap shot over the blocker of Garteig between the circles at 13:10.

2-1 Clippers.

Nanaimo added to their lead with a marker from Brayden Jaw on a nice two-on-one rush with Kyle Kramer. Jaw took a feed and walked in on Gartieg and went high on the Prince George native.

3-1 Clippers.

After the ensuing face-off, Matt Domsodi took an hooking infraction giving the Kings a power-play. Which would prove to be costly.

Chad Niddery scored just twenty seven seconds into the man advantage, bringing his team within one goal.

3-2 Clippers.

In the third, both teams started off trading chances in either end; both goaltenders were up to the task keeping things as is. Nanaimo actually seized momentum for a brief period of time midway through the period until a double minor spearing penalty to Mike Puddifant.

On the ensuing power-play, Dan Schuler took a puck between the circles, turned, then fired home his first BCHL goal past Pelletier.

3-3

Thus bringing us to where I started, Kyle Kramer's game wining goal.
