BCHL Player of the week: Joel Rumpel

With the first week of BCHL hockey in the books, the BCHL has come out with the seasons firs POW.

Penticton Vees goaltender Joel Rumpel has been named the British Columbia Hockey League's Player of the Week for the week ending September 12th, the league announced Monday.



Rumpel was stellar in a pair of weekend wins over the Westside Warriors, allowing just a pair of goals on 70 shots. On Friday, the 19-year old stopped all 32 shuts that he faced in a 1-0 victory on the road. One night later, he allowed a pair of special teams goals while making 36 saves. He was named the game's First Star in both contests.

Overall, Rumpel closed out the week with a 1.00 goals-against average and .971 save-percentage. The Wisconsin commit is beginning his first season as the starter in Penticton after compiling a 19-3 record with two shutouts while backing up Sean Bonar a year ago.


Honourable mentions for this week's award included Trail's Travis St. Denis, Victoria's Joel Lowry and Salmon Arm's Kris Moore.
