Monday Musings

  • An impressive weekend for the Kings has them climbing the national rankings. The CJHL came out with it's weekly rankings and Powell River climbed 6 spots to 4th in the country. The only other BCHL team to crack the Top 20 is Penticton who sits 18th.
  • The wins over Cowichan Valley and Nanaimo give the Kings a 5 point lead a top of the BCHL standings and a 6 point cushion in the Coastal Conference. The Kings also sport the best winning percentage which sits at .783.
  • Could Matt Garbowsky be the First King to receive Player of the Week honours? The 20 year-old collected 4 goals and 1 assist in two games. The goal surge vaulted Garbowsky to first in team scoring with 13. He will be up against stiff competition.
  • How hot are the Kings? Powell River is riding a 5 game winning streak and is 9-1 in their last ten games. They own the second best home and road records too.
  • Sean Maguire is quite the revelation in goal for Powell River. The 17 year-old earned his second consecutive shutout in as many starts on Saturday. The lanky netminder stopped all 31 shots he faced including an extended 6 on 3 late in the game when Nanaimo pulled their goaltender.

West tangles with the Swiss and East meets the US The BCHL will be represented by Vernon's Dylan Walchuk, Victoria's Madison Dias and the Penticton contingent of Joey Laleggia, Brendan O'Donnell and Mark MacMillan.
