GAME PREVIEW: CAPITALS vs. KINGS

Cowichan Valley Capitals                     Powell River Kings
 (6-13-0-2)                                                     (15-4-1-1)
Last 10: 2-6-0-2                                       Last 10: 8-1-0-1

Season Series: Tonight's game is the second of six meetings this season between the Coastal Conference rivals, with Powell River already owning a win at the Hap Parker Arena.  Matt Garbowsky and Chad Niddery each recorded three points in a 4-1 win on October 9th. Mike Hammond scored a power-play goal for Cowichan to break up Mike Garteig's shutout bid.

Big Story:  Teams residing at opposite ends of the Coast standings face off in this game, as the Kings look to extend their four point lead on top the Coastal Conference, while the Capitals are desperate for a win. The Caps point total is the fewest in the Coastal Conference and thirteenth in the BCHL. Their are 2-6-0-2 on the road.

Team Scope:

Kings: Mike Garteig has been razor sharp in the last three contests, only surrendering a goal in each of those games and the defense in front of him has been great too. The Kings own the best goals against average in the BCHL and are the only team under 2 in that category. Powell River's opposition this season has only registered more than 30 shots in a game twice.

"We've got to keep playing the way we have been the last few weeks" head coach Kent Lewis stated this morning. " We got up to play Langley last weekend in a showdown for first place and  tonight can't be any different, regardless of where our opponents sit in the standings."

Capitals: It's been over 3 years since Cowichan Valley has won in Powell River. That was back on September 7th, 2007 a 5-4 OT victory. Clinton Pettapiece scored 30 seconds into the first overtime session. The Caps are riding a 3 game losing streak dating back to Oct 23rd when they downed Nanaimo 4-2. As mentioned earlier, they have struggled on the road and haven't won away from Duncan since October 2nd, a 4-2 victory in Vernon.
However, this team can hurt you at the drop of a hat. Mike Hammond is riding a 4 game goal scoring streak, which leads the BCHL and a 5 game point streak overall. Don't forget about his partner in crime, Jordan Grant. The former King is down right dangerous with the puck in the opposition's zone. The key for Cowichan is to keep their top guns focused.

Who's Hot: The Kings are 9-2-0-1 on home ice this season and haven't lost in regulation at the Hap since a 6-5 setback to Surrey on September 19th.

Injury Report: Daniel Schuler remains out  for Powell River and so to is Teagan Waugh. Chad Niddery will be a game time decision.

Jackson Garrett is still serving an indefinite suspension for Cowichan Valley.

Stat Pack: The Kings have only surrendered three or more goals twice this season...forward Andrew Pettitt broke the century mark in points last weekend and he sits at 101 for his career...Justin DaSilva is riding a 3 game assist streak.
Puck Drop: Two players will be making their debuts for the Capitals. Goaltender Brandon Glover was signed this week. The Victoria native was released by the WHL's Moose Jaw Warriors in training camp. Ashton Bernard is expected to be in the line-up as well. Bernard has spent the last 3 season's in the QMJHL.
