Coastal Conference Final Preview: Kings vs. Eagles

Surrey Eagles (2) (35-22-1-2) 73 pts vs. Powell River Kings (1) (46-9-3-2) 97 pts

Road to the final four:

Kings- Finished first in the Coastal Conference in the regular season, awaited the winner of the Victoria Nanaimo first round series. Victoria beat Nanaimo in five games 9-1, 5-3, 2-6, 3-0 and 3-2.

The Kings got all they could handle and more from the Grizz, erasing a 3-1 series deficit and winning three straight (3-2OT, 4-1, 4-1) to win the series in seven. That was the third time the Kings have met the Grizzlies in the playoffs and in all three series the Kings have won in seven games.

Powell River finished the regular season on a six game win streak and amassed a record of 8-1 in February. Their only loss? To Surrey 6-4 on the 11th.

Eagles-  Finished second behind Powell River in the regular season and played Coquitlam in the first round. The Eagles swept the Express 4-2, 4-1, 7-1, 3-1. Surrey met Langley in the second round, downing the Chiefs in six games 3-4, 6-1, 4-3, 3-2OT, 5-7, 4-2.

The matchup with Langley turned ugly, even by playoff standards. The league handed out five suspensions, two to the Eagles, totalling nine games. Brandon Morley received a one game suspension and Colton Mackie was given two games in the series. You could say the Eagles are battle tested.

After going 3-3-1-1 in the month of November the Eagles went 22-14-1-2 to end the season. However the Eagles slumped into the playoffs by dropping three of their final five games to close the regular season.
