GAME PREVIEW: CHIEFS at KINGS

19-10-1-4 (2nd)
Last 10: 6-3-1-0

22-5-3-2 (1st)
Last 10: 6-1-2-1

Big Story: This will be the fifth meeting between the Kings and Chiefs. Through four games Powell River has a slight edge in the season series with a record of 2-0-1-1. Langley is making their final visit to the Sunshine Coast. In three games in Powell River the Kings have out scored the Chiefs 12-5.

Team Scope:

Chiefs: Harvey Smyl's club is coming off a 3-1 win last night in Alberni Valley. The win was their first on the road since November 10th when they downed Victoria 6-4. Langley has already won 12 times on the road and it's a good thing too as they have played the most road games in the BCHL. However it was a halloween scare for the Chiefs on their last visit to Powell River.

The Chiefs were drubbed 6-1 and 4-1 on Halloween weekend which saw plenty of fireworks and bad blood between the two Coastal Conference foes. It's that short fuse the Chiefs show at times that gets them in trouble. Langley is the most penalized team in the league as they have already racked up 609 penalty minutes. To put that into perspective, that's 97 more penalty minutes than the second most penalized team. For Langley to be successful they will have to find a way to keep their cool.

Kings: Powell River will be looking to rebound on home ice after coming off two road wins over the weekend. If you recall the Kings were doubled up by Nanaimo 6-3 last Wednesday at the Hap. Kent Lewis stated that was their worst effort of the season. It is a rare sight to see the Kings out worked on home ice. However the Kings still boast the best home record in the league.

Justin Bardarson will be in the line up tonight for the Kings. The 20 year-old was acquired from the Melfort Mustangs on the December 1st dead line. Bardarson was at home in Burns Lake, BC at the time of the trade. He was formerly the captain of the Williams Lake Timberwolves. Bardarson has a connection with Kings Assoicate Head Coach, Chad van Diemen. Bardarson played under Chad when he was an assistant with the Chase Chiefs in the KIJHL.

Who's Hot: Matt Garbowsky was the Armitage Mens Wear Player of the Month for November. In 11 games Garbowsky scored 11 goals and tallied four assists. Craig Dalrymple recorded nine points last month and Justin DaSilva chipped in with eight. Chad Niddery has hit a dry spell in the goal department. Niddery did not score last month and hasn't scored since October 22nd in Merritt, a stretch of 16 games. However he did tally 9 assists last month and is averaging a point a game during the 16 game slump.

Brandon Thompson is on a roll for the Chiefs. The left winger has assisted in four straight games and is riding a six game point streak.

Stat Pack: The Kings have enjoyed their fair share of success against the Chiefs in the past three years. The Kings sport an 11-5-2-1 record against the Chiefs since the 2008-09 season. Langley has won once in three tries in Powell River this season and hasn't won in regulation in Powel River since September 19th, 2008.

Injury Report: Cohen Adair, Andrew Pettitt and Scott Renner are out due to injury. Teagan Waugh returns to the line-up for the Kings. Mike Tebbutt and Mason Blacklock won't be dressed for the Chiefs tonight.

Puck Drop: Tonight is the annual Teddy Bear Toss for the Kings. Everyone is encouraged to bring a stuffed toy to tonight's game. Rona will be on hand to collected the stuffed toys after the Kings first goal tonight. The toys will go to various groups in Powell River.
