For the second straight week a Powell River King has been named the BCHL Player of the Week. Mike Garteig earned his second nod after a terrific weekend on the Lower Mainland.
From the BCHL website:
Powell River Kings goaltender Michael Garteig is the British Columbia Hockey League Player of the week for the week ending February 6, the league announced Monday.
Garteig went 3-0 in three road games for the Kings, picking up his seventh shutout on the season which ties a BCHL record. The Prince George native allowed just two goals in the three games, helping Powell River strengthen its grip on first-place overall in the league.
The 6-foot-1, 185-pound 19-year-old racked up some gaudy numbers on the way to his second Player of the Week nod this season. He turned in a 0.67 goals-against average, a .978 save percentage and his shutout tied him with former Prince George Spruce Kings and Merritt Centennials goalie Brad Thiessen for the most in one season.
