ROAD ODYSSEY

Today the Kings embark on a four game, six day road trip through the Okanagan and South Eastern BC. The team will be based out of Kelowna for the duration of the trip, which gets underway tomorrow in Kelowna against the Warriors.

The team has been playing well over the past two weeks but as the coaches will tell you, are still looking for consistency. The win Friday versus Surrey showed signs of the form we are accustomed to seeing from this team on a regular basis. The first period alone was something to hang their hat on. Scoring four times including two goals in four minutes; the opener 31 seconds in.

With a sizable lead however, the Kings battled themselves more so the Eagles in the final two periods. The team let of the gas so to speak which is only human nature in hockey. When you score at will on a opponent your natural instinct is that it will come easier and therefore experience a drop off in play. Inconsistency plagued Powell River in all three periods one night later.

When you look at the game you will see a 4-2 victory and can come away pleased. However, if you ask the coaches they would have a differing opinion. The Kings fought both the Grizzlies and themselves for much of the sixty minutes. Powell River was plagued by poor execution, in particular trying to break through the Grizzlies trap game.

When it goes side ways early on it's tough to right the ship and play within the game plan laid out. Natural tendencies lead one to bear more of the load individually and that's where your game can break down. However ever give credit to the team for battling through and thwarting a Victoria rally in the third period.

The Kings are riding a four game win streak and are coming into their road trip playing with confidence and vigor.

I'll be checking in from the road,
